HOW TO COLLECT PETITION SIGNATURES:
1) Write to the appropriate governmental body for the petitions for the office you wish to run for(See County Commitees & Candidates for Office page for that info).
2) Tell them you want the "Petition of Nomination for the General Election" for the office you wish to run for. Ask for as many petitions as you can get & Expect less then you ask(Ex.Ask for 5,and you'll get 2).
3) Once you recieve them, fill out the front of the petition, then MAKE AS MANY PHOTOCOPIES AS YOU CAN!!! If you have a computer, make up a simple flyer to handout with your name, the office you're running for, and what you stand for(Ex.: VOTE FOR STEVE SPINOSA FOR U.S. CONGRESS!!! As YOUR Representative in Congress, Steve will fight to Eliminate Earmarks, Abolish the Tax Code, etc., etc.) Also get your friends to collect signatures for you.
4) Go to your local shopping center or post office or anywhere there is a lot of foot traffic(Get a friend or two to help you). Weekends are a good time.Introduce yourself to the first person you see and say you'ld like them to sign your petition to get on the ballot. EMPHISIZE that you're only trying to get on the ballot. If they resist give them a flyer, tell them to think it over, and say they can sign on the way out. If they consent, make sure you get their last name, first name, & street address(The first one is always the hardest).
5) repeat until the signature lines are filled up(this will take a few days,so don't be discouraged if you don't get a lot the first day). Once you've completed that, Have the circulators(and you should always circulate one yourself)sign the circulator section in front of a notary(Banks and post offices will do it for a nominal fee). Then sign the Oath of Allegiance & Certificate of Acceptance in front of the same notary. Then you mail it off to the appropriate governmental agency.
AND THAT'S IT!!! YOU'RE ON THE BALLOT!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!
